Metolius mayor arrested on warrant
Metolius Mayor John Christopher Chavez, 54, was arrested July 9, when his probation was revoked for failing to complete the remaining eight days of a 10-day jail sentence by July 1.
The sentence stemmed from a fourth-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor, which occurred on May 13, 2018. The victim was a male family member.
Chavez pleaded guilty to the charge April 25, and was sentenced to 10 days in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, and 18 months of bench probation. He served the first two days, but a warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to complete the remainder prior to July 1. He will be conditionally released on July 18.
