The outlook for August calls for above normal temperatures, near normal precipitation.

MADRAS PIONEER LOGO - July was a little cooler and drier than usual.Temperatures at Madras averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of July, according to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 64.9 degrees, which was 1.0 degree below normal. High temperatures averaged 83.3 degrees, which was 2.0 degrees below normal. The highest was 96 degrees on July 27.

On four days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees.

Low temperatures averaged 46.6 degrees, which was normal. The lowest was 37 degrees, on the 22nd.

Precipitation totaled 0.15 inches during July, which was 0.39 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on two days, with the heaviest, 0.09 inches reported on July 2.

Precipitation this year has reached 8.19 inches, which is 1.97 inches above normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 9.67 inches, which is 0.03 inches below normal.

The outlook for August from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation.

Normal highs for Madras during August are 84.7 degrees and normal lows are 45.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.34 inches.
