Greg Walden, far right, stops at the Crooked River Ranch Fire Station to present officials with a signed copy of the recently passed Crooked River Ranch Fire Protection Act.Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River) stopped by the Crooked River Ranch Fire Station to celebrate the signing of the Crooked River Ranch Fire Protection Act and talk with local residents and officials about fire safety.

"The Crooked River Ranch legislation is critical for the safety of the more than 5,000 people living in the area," said Walden. "I am proud to have worked with local leaders, advocates, first responders, and community members on this bill."

"This bipartisan bill enables us to reduce the fire fuel loads that put the community in jeopardy. It was great to celebrate this win with so many of the people that made it possible," he continued. "Hearing from the BLM that they will begin implementation of this new law and start thinning work this winter is welcome news. I look forward to continuing to work with the community and the BLM to ensure this needed fire prevention work gets done."

While at the Crooked River Ranch Fire Station, Walden had the chance to meet with the student firefighters and learn about their experiences fighting wildfires. "Our firefighters deserve our utmost thanks and respect," said Walden. "It was great to meet and thank the young, brave student firefighters at Crooked River Ranch. They could choose to spend their summer in many ways, but they chose to serve our community. Their service and sacrifice, as well as that of all first responders, is something I am truly grateful for."
