HOLLY M. GILL/MADRAS PIONEER - The Jefferson County Winter Shelter will open its doors at the Madras First Baptist Church Friday, Nov. 1, two weeks early, due to the cold weather. People are asked to use the door on Sixth Street.The Jefferson County Winter Shelter, which originally planned to open Nov. 15, will instead open Nov. 1, as a result of cold temperatures.

Beginning Friday, at the First Baptist Church, the shelter will open at 6 p.m. each night, remaining in that location through Jan. 15. People are asked to use the Sixth Street entrance.

On Jan. 16, the shelter will move to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, where it will continue to be open each night. The shelter's last open day for the season will be March 15.

Last year, the shelter was only open on nights when the temperature dropped below freezing.
