SUBMITTED PHOTO - Louis T. Apo, 73, of Metolius, has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a girl in Deschutes County.A Metolius man, Louis Taiyon Apo, 73, was arraigned Oct. 31, in the Deschutes County Circuit Court on sex abuse charges involving a girl who was under age 12 when the abuse began.

Apo was charged with six counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, four counts of first-degree sodomy, and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, involving the girl, and one count of second-degree sexual abuse involving another victim.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office initiated the investigation Oct. 23, when the office received a report alleging numerous incidences of abuse involving Apo, who had lived in the same neighborhood as the victims in La Pine.

"The investigation revealed the crimes involving these victims took place over approximately the past five years while Apo resided in the La Pine area, as well as the last year in Metolius, Oregon," noted Sgt. William Bailey, public information officer for the DCSO.

The first 10 counts (unlawful sexual penetration and sodomy) are Class A felonies, subject to mandatory sentencing of eight years and four months, which are alleged to have occurred between Sept. 7, 2013, and Sept. 6, 2019. The three first-degree sexual abuse charges are Class B felonies, subject to mandatory sentencing of six years and three months. The first of those is alleged to have occurred between Sept. 7, 2013, and Sept. 6, 2019, and the second two, between Jan. 1, 2015, and Sept. 6, 2019.

Second-degree sexual abuse, which is reported to have occurred between Jan. 1, 2015, and Sept. 6, 2019, is a Class C felony, with a separate victim.

All 16 counts are believed to have occurred in Deschutes County.

Bailey reported that Apo, who had lived in Metolius for the past year, befriended families in the neighborhoods where he lived, often babysitting for his neighbors. Previously, Apo lived in Denver, Colorado, and San Francisco and Eureka, California.

Apo's pattern of behavior has led detectives to believe that there could be more victims. Anyone who has information about other potential victims should contact Detective Josh Barker at 541-617-3331.

The DCSO investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.
