Former Jefferson County Commissioner dies at age 79; served in many capacities

SUSAN MATHENY/MADRAS PIONEER - Jodi Eagan was presented with the Beth Crow Award by historical society president Jerry Ramsey in April 2014.Jodi Eagan, a former Jefferson County Commissioner, died after a long illness Sunday, Dec. 1. She was 79.

As a child, Eagan moved to the Agency Plains with her parents and three siblings to farm shortly after irrigation arrived in Jefferson County. She lived nearly her entire life in the Madras area, farming with her husband, John Eagan, becoming a very active civic leader and community servant.

Eagan's contributions included the agriculture and educational fields, local history preservation and political service. She was a strong advocate of youth and family health, was the coordinator of Early Intervention in Jefferson County and became the chair of the Jefferson County Commission on Children and Families.

In 1994, she was elected Jefferson County Commissioner,and is one of only four women who have ever served on what is now the county board of commissioners.

Eagan leaves her husband and two daughters, Angela and Ellie.
