The National Weather Service says the average temperature was 33.2 degrees, 2.4 above normal.

According to preliminary data received by NOAA's National Weather Service in Pendleton, Oregon, temperatures at Madras averaged warmer than normal during the month of December.

The average temperature was 33.2 degrees, which was 2.4 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 42.8 degrees, which was 3.0 degrees above normal. The highest was 61 degrees on the 22nd. Low temperatures averaged 23.7 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees above normal. The lowest was 10 degrees, on the 3rd.

There were 27 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. There were three days when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.69 inches during December, which was 0.69 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on seven days, with the heaviest, 0.29 inches, reported on the 12th.

Precipitation in 2019 totaled 12.00 inches, which is 1.55 inches above normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Madras has been 1.37 inches, which is 2.11 inches below normal.

The outlook for January from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center calls for below-normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras during January are 41.8 degrees and normal lows are 23.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.30 inches.
