April was warmer than normal, NOAA says
According to preliminary data received by NOAA's National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at Madras averaged warmer than normal during the month of April.
The average temperature was 47.8 degrees which was 2.2 degrees above normal. High Temperatures averaged 62.3 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees above normal. The highest was 77 degrees on the 28th. Low temperatures averaged 33.4 degrees, which was 2.7 degrees above normal. The lowest was 21 degrees, on the 3rd.
There were 12 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 0.21 inches during April, which was 0.71 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on four days, with the heaviest, 0.08 inches, reported on the 5th.
Precipitation this year has reached 2.17 inches, which is 1.82 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Madras has been 3.54 inches, which is 3.93 inches below normal.
The outlook for May from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras rise from 64.0 degrees at the start of May to 72.0 degrees at the end of May. Normal lows rise from 33.0 degrees to 40.0 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.01 inches.
