Humane society manager's brain tumor worse than thought
A fundraiser for Three Rivers Humane Society manager Jerilee Drynan has raised more than $55,000. News from doctors at Oregon Health & Sciences University is discouraging, said her brother, Rick Gay, in an update.
Drynan's tumor is a glioblastoma, which is more aggressive than originally thought "and almost always terminal," Gay said. "Jerilee has a few things in her favor. When the surgeon was taking out the tumor, he was able to take a bigger margin than expected, which could have removed not only the entire tumor but some of the nasty seeds it leaves behind. Unfortunately, this type of tumor will come back in most cases."
Drynan started chemotherapy and radiation Friday, July 24. Her bills so far are $102,000, and Gay said her radiation therapy alone will cost $50,000. Drynan and her husband, Steve, run the humane society through their nonprofit organization and do not have health insurance.

The Wandering Chef food truck in Hideaway Alley will give all profits and tips to Drynan's fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 1.
