Jonathan Gilbert was in 'a life-threatening situation' when police arrived Saturday evening.

On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 5, Warm Springs Tribal Police Department officers responded to a report of suspicious circumstances in the Greeley Heights area of Warm Springs.

When they arrived, they found a person, who was later identified as Jonathan Gilbert, in a life-threatening situation.

As officers attempted to provide CPR and other life-saving procedures, and prior to the arrival of emergency medical personnel, Gilbert died.

An investigation was immediately initiated with the department's investigations unit and the FBI, who have developed a person of interest in the matter.

Forensic teams were called to the scene, and Gilbert's body was taken to the medical examiner's office to determine the official cause of death.

"At this time we believe there is no general public safety concern, and the investigation is continuing," said Warm Springs Tribal Police Chief Bill Elliott in a press release.
