Alcohol may be factor in fatal crash
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 on Northwest Columbia Drive near Fir Lane north of Madras.
According to Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn, the crash involved a single vehicle that went off the roadway that damaged a power line pole and came to rest on its top in a field.
The vehicle was occupied by four persons, and three of the four were transported by Jefferson County EMS to St. Charles Redmond for treatment. The fourth person died as a result of injuries on scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
More information will be released after notifications are made to the families of those involved.
Oregon State Police are reconstructing the crash scene and assisting in the investigation is the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. Jefferson County Fire assisted on scene, and Jefferson County Public Works Department closed the roadway.
