Madras Love's now serving rigs big and small
The new Madras truck stop opened Thursday, Nov. 5 — a bright red and yellow facility on the south end of town.
"It started out pretty slow but really picked up as the day progressed and the word spread," said Love's General Manager Andrew Pectol of opening day.
The new Love's Travel Stop located on U.S. Highway 97 adds 46 jobs and 82 truck parking spaces to Jefferson County. The attached Arby's restaurant brought an additional 40 or so jobs.
"We're excited to expand our footprint in Oregon and open our sixth location there," said Tom Love, founder and executive chairman of Love's. "This location will provide customers a clean and well-stocked and maintained place to stop before our team members get them back on the road safely and quickly."
Pectol was grateful for Gary Hoff of the local Model A car club, who brought some cars to Love's for opening day.
"It's a very rare and awesome thing," Pectol said of the Model A cars on display.
In honor of the grand opening, Love's will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, with the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. They ask that only a limited number of people attend.
Love's will donate $2,000 to the Jefferson County Faith-Based Network. The money will be used for its cold weather shelter.
"We are going to do what we can to help keep them safe by donating sterilization supplies, masks and gloves as we can," Pectol said of shelter guests. "We wish to be very involved in the local community."
The Madras location is open 24/7 and offers many amenities, including: more than 11,000 square feet, Arby's, 82 truck parking spaces, 61 car parking spaces, four RV parking spaces, six diesel bays, five showers, laundry facilities, bean-to-cup gourmet coffee, brand-name snacks, mobile To Go Zone with the latest electronics, CAT scale, and dog park.
Pectol moved to Redmond from Sacramento, California, to take the general manager job at the new Love's.
"I am a part of this community. My family absolutely loves the people, environment here and, of course, the beautiful scenery here in Central Oregon," Pectol said. "Everyone is so nice and accepting. Out of all the places we have lived — which is a lot — this is by far the most welcoming."
