Metolius man fails to appear on various sexual charges involving minor
A 42-year-old Metolius man failed to appear to hear the preliminary charges against him in Jefferson County Circuit Court Thursday, Nov. 19.
Jose Manuel Galan-Fernandez faces eight charges: two counts of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child, two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of purchasing sex with a minor, and two counts of commercial sexual exploitation.
According to the information filed by the district attorney's office, Galan-Fernandez used "an online communication to solicit a child to engage in sexually explicit conduct and intentionally took a substantial step toward physically meeting with ... the child" between Sept. 1 and Oct. 18.
It accuses him of third-degree rape of a girl younger than 16.
The document also says Galan-Fernandez offered and agreed to pay a fee for sex with a minor or an officer posing as one.
The information outlines at least two separate incidents.
On Oct. 30, Galan-Fernandez posted $11,500, 10% of the security in the case, and was released from the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
He was ordered to appear at 9:15 a.m. Nov. 19 but did not.
