Cattle truck overturns on Highway 97
A cattle truck carrying 30 dairy cows overturned on Highway 97 at milepost 87 near Northeast Elm Lane north of Madras early Thursday morning.
Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched to the scene at 3:40 a.m. Jan. 7 and assisted local law enforcement personnel with cutting cows free from the overturned cattle truck.
According to a media release from JCFD, some 30 dairy cows were contained in the trailer. Not all the cows survived the wreck.
Iras towing, JCFD, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, and community members helped free the cows from the trailer.
The release said it was a mutual effort and thanked everyone who helped provide equipment along with a place to put the live cows.
Crews remained on scene for four to five hours.
