Warm Springs Police, FBI, Evidence Response Team involved in investigation

On Monday, Jan. 11, Warm Springs Tribal Police Department officers were dispatched a remote location along Tenino Road on a report of the discovery of human remains.

Upon arriving at the location, WSTPD officers met with the citizen who had called. According to a news release from WSTPD, the citizen stated that while salvaging some wood from an old dock, they noticed a round item on the ground. The citizen rolled the item with a foot and noticed it appeared to be a human skull.

WSTPD officers secured the site, and WSTPD detectives did a cursory search of the area and located several other bones that were of interest. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified, and FBI agents from the Bend office and the Evidence Response Team responded to work with the WSTPD in processing the site.

A cadaver dog was requested from another local agency to assist in the search of the area. The report said that information is limited at this time, with a timeframe of one to 10 years being given as to how long the remains had been at this location, based on some preliminary examinations by the medical examiner's office.

The WSTPD will be cross checking its database for missing/runaway persons from the last 10 years to ensure none are outstanding and will investigate this matter with the FBI.

If anyone has any information related to this matter, please contact the WSTPD tip line at 541-553-2202.
