Farm Fair, virtual in '21, set for March 4
For the latest updates on irrigation water, plant diseases, and pest management, local growers will want to register for the 41st Annual Central Oregon Farm Fair, being held virtually via Zoom on Thursday, March 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Because of COVID restrictions and the virtual format, there will be no agricultural trade booths this year.
A link is now available to register for the Zoom presentations on the jeffcoseed.com website. Click on the link, or type http://beav.es/JpG in a search engine.
"The system will automatically send them a link to log in to the meeting," said Tracy Wilson, ag education coordinator at the Central Oregon Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Madras. She said around 20 people have registered so far, and she expects that to increase closer to the event.
There will be four talks, but none will offer continuing education credits this time. "The committee felt that was not as critical, and the fair should focus on the water report and local research, and not be too long," Wilson said.
She also said the Smoke Management Program will be given as a written report only this year.
The virtual farm fair schedule includes:
8:30-10:30 a.m.: "Basin Water Report" by North Unit Irrigation General Manager Mike Britton, and Oregon Water Resources Department Watermaster Manager Jeremy Giffin.
10:30-10:40 a.m.: Screen break.
10:40-11:10 a.m.: "Integrated Pest Management Research Update" by Dr. John Spring, COAREC.
11:10-11:20 a.m.: Screen break.
