The June 3 opening event includes vendors, dancers and bands in downtown Madras

First Thursday festivities return to Fifth Street in Madras June 3 after COVID shut down the party last year.

Merchants and vendors will open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fifth Street between B and D streets.

Two live bands will serenade the revelers, including Shane Brown and an ensemble from the band Countryfied.

Dance students from a dance studio will perform.

Art and craft vendors will share their wares, from macaroons, to leather bags, to homemade jams.

As to COVID protocols, "We ask people to use their common sense," says event organizer Angela Rhodes.

"I'm excited to see that vibrant downtown again," says Michael Baker, Jefferson County Public Health director. "I think with the new guidelines and with everything mostly concentrated outdoors, I think it can be done very safely."

The Madras Downton Business Association plans to continue First Thursdays on July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2.
