After a hard-fought battle that put their knowledge to the absolute test, a team of four Madras Elementary students emerged as the first ever Jefferson County School District Oregon Battle of the Books winner.

The championship began Wednesday morning, June 2 on the Performing Arts Center stage with a back-and-forth battle between Metolius Elementary and the Jefferson County Library District Team. It was neck and neck throughout with Metolius finding a way to punch their ticket to the district championship.

The next battle featured teams from Buff and Madras elementary schools. This was also a back-and-forth affair that could not be decided in regulation. Madras ended up edging Buff in a tiebreaker question. The championship match was set at this point between Madras and Metolius.

The Madras Eagles team prevailed, and each of the four students won a brand new Kindle Fire. The championship team included librarian and coach Tiffany Mitchell, Keira Moore, James Noonan, Adley Orlandos, Carson Moore and fourth grade teacher and coach Megan Harding.

The Metolius team got certificates for a treat at Yo Good Frozen Yogurt in Madras.
