Kyeesha Alvarez pleads guilty to custodial interference in Nov. 1, 2020, incident

Twenty-six-year-old Kyeesha Alvarez will serve six years in prison for her part in a bizarre attempt to grab a 7-month-old baby away from her custodial grandparents and return her to her birth mother.

The incident occurred Nov. 1, 2020.

According to court documents, Alvarez said she wanted to see her niece and grabbed the baby and the car seat.

The affidavit says in the struggle that followed, Alvarez's accomplice, Caleb Asher, kicked the grandmother in the head and shot one round from a pistol, which hit the grandmother's companion in the elbow and lodged in his chest.

Asher got an 11-year 9-month sentence for the crime.

Later, the baby was safely brought to another relative.

Alvarez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit custodial interference, a Class C Felony, and second-degree assault, a Class B felony.

In court Monday, July 19, Alvarez was sentenced to 70 months in prison and 36 months post-prison supervision.
