The police pursuit and investigation closed Highway 97 for two hours on Oct. 6

COURTESY PHOTO: JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Several police agencies responded Oct. 6 to reports of a person shooting a gun at a house and pointing a gun at cars. After a pursuit Wasco County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Zachary Marquart, 30 on Highway 97 near Meadowlark Lane.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 Oregon State Police responded to information that a person was shooting at vehicles in Shaniko. OSP located the vehicle, a gold Chevrolet Suburban, traveling southbound.

Jefferson County Sheriff reports its deputies also responded to the scene after hearing of an active shooter in Shaniko shooting at a house and pointing a gun at cars.

Jefferson County Sheriff and Madras Police both used spike strips to stop the vehicle before it got to Madras. The suspect eventually stopped on Highway 97 near Meadowlark Lane.

The OSP log mentions one taser deployment.

Wasco County Sheriff's Deputies took the suspect, 30-year-old Zachary Forrest Marquardt of Shaniko, into custody without incident.

Wasco County authorities will not release further information while they investigate the incident.

The highway diverted traffic to Meadowlark Lane for about two hours while OSP completed its investigation.
