Police close all hospital entrances while they identified and cleared the threat

Madras police placed a lockout order on St. Charles Madras Friday afternoon, Jan. 7 until they cleared a threat from the building.

At about 1:30, MPD responded to a call regarding an individual making verbal threats about using a firearm.

"Because of the nature of the threat and because the individual was reportedly outside the building and in the parking lot," said Sgt. Steve Webb, "the hospital was placed in a lockout in order to keep individuals from entering the building."

Officers located the individual who had made the threats along with his caretaker in the main parking lot of the hospital.

The individual did not have a gun and there was no danger to any individuals.

Police advised hospital staff of the situation and rescinded the lock out.

"There is no continuing threat to the hospital or the community," says Webb.

Oregon State Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office assisted with the incident.
