Former deputy charged with sharing intimate images
Wednesday, Jan. 12, Deschutes County filed three charges of unlawful dissemination of an intimate image against former Jefferson County Sheriff Deputy Joshua Oliveira, 38, of Prineville.
Court documents say Oliveira shared intimate photos on three occasions between March 1 and July 31, 2021.
The Bulletin reports Oliveira is accused of sending the photos of a woman to people she previously dated, a practice often referred to as "revenge porn."
The charges say the woman in the photos did not consent to the disclosure of the images and was "harassed, humiliated or injured by the disclosure, and a reasonable person would be harassed, humiliated or injured by the disclosure."
Oliveira resigned from his position with the sheriff's office July 1 with no notice.
"This office did not know Josh was under investigation for this conduct until after he separated from JCSO," said Jefferson County Sheriff Marc Heckathorn. "His leaving was not a result of any internal investigation relating to the allegations."
Oliveira graduated from Madras High School and served in the U.S. Army from 2005 to 2006. He worked as a reserve officer with Madras Police and served as a corrections deputy for the county sheriff.
"I'm greatly disappointed in hearing the news a former employee has been charged with committing a crime," says Heckathorn. "My hope is the victim receives justice and that Josh receives a fair trial as I hope occurs in every criminal case. If found guilty, I expect Josh to be held fully accountable for his actions."
