Madras Police hold pedestrian safety operations downtown
The following is a press release from the Madras Police Department.
The Madras Police Department along with Jefferson County Sheriff's Of?ce and
Oregon State Police, conducted a Pedestrian Safety/ Speed Enforcement operation
in downtown Madras on Saturday, June 18th.
The operation consisted of 19 traf?c enforcement actions from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. A second operation will occur the weekend, of June 25 at an undetermined location and time.
Madras Police Department would like to remind all drivers that Oregon recognizes
every intersection as a crosswalk, marked or unmarked. The de?nition of a
crosswalk can be found online (ORS 801.220). The Madras Police Department
would also like to remind pedestrians to always use caution when crossing the
roadway, making sure it is safe to do so. Together with the publics support, the
police department strives to make Madras a pedestrian-safe environment for all.
Grants from Oregon Impact and Oregon Department of Transportation are used to,
fund of?cer's wages during these safety operations.
