Jefferson County Library District gets new book mobile
Thanks to two grants, the Jefferson County Library District now has a book mobile. The mobile van will allow the library to attend community events and offer library access across the county.
"I have to say that having a book mobile has been a real step out for us here at the library. It allows us to get out into the community and provide services in those harder-to-reach areas," said Gretchen Schlie, the JCLD outreach librarian.
The vehicle, a 2021 Dodge Ram Promaster, has been named Miles Van Gogh. The library intends to bring the van to events in the community and has already made appearances at First Thursday and the Madras Saturday Market, as well as community food banks and schools.
The van currently brings free books through the library's twice-read books program. They hope to soon provide remote check-out from the book mobile, as well as delivery of library holds. The book mobile will be at the Madras Saturday Market most Saturdays this summer. A monthly schedule of Miles' appearances will be available on the JCLD website soon.
Keep an eye out for Miles traveling around Jefferson County!
