Newly drawn district now includes the Warm Springs portion of Jefferson County

Representative Greg Smith (R-Heppner), age 53, is running unopposed for his 12th term as representative for House District 57.

District 57 includes Umatilla, Morrow, Gilliam, Sherman and Wasco Counties. Redistricting added the Warm Springs portion of Jefferson County to the district.

Eleven terms makes Smith the longest serving member of the House of Representatives. Smith serves as Co-Chair of the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on General Government and as Co-Vice Chair of the full Joint Ways and Means Committee.

His also the ranking member of the House Revenue and Joint Legislative Audits Committees.

Smith says he's had a few meetings to prepare for representing Jefferson County.

"I had an introduction meeting and fairgrounds tour with Commissioner Simmelink," said Smith, "and an introduction and check-in meeting with the Warm Springs Tribal Council."

Smith says he considers water and behavioral health the key issues for the parts of Jefferson County within the boundaries of District 57.

Owner of a small business himself, Smith promotes economic expansion.

Smith was an Eagle Scout himself and remains active in Boy Scout leadership.

He and his wife, Sherri, have five children.
