Fight back against carbon tax bill
House Bill 2020, the carbon tax bill now pending in the State Legislature, will severely impair the economy of Oregon and severely raise your cost of living.
The carbon tax will not only be levied on the gasoline that you put in your vehicle but it will tax electricity, propane, natural gas, and home heating oil. We travel long distances in Central and Eastern Oregon to get to jobs, schools, doctors, and conduct other important business. This will hurt us and probably put many ranchers and farmers out of business.
In addition, it will raise the price of everything we use, including the food we eat. It will raise the cost for local governments to run their fleets of trucks and cars. They will pass that cost on to us as higher property taxes. It will raise the cost of the garbage and recycling trucks and that cost will be passed on to us.
All of this would be a small price to pay if we were saving the planet. But the bare truth is that all of this will have absolutely no effect on our climate. Even if you buy into the global climate change hoax, you must know that we share the atmosphere with big polluters like China, Russia and India.
The climate has been changing since the beginning of history on this earth. The medieval warming period lasted from about the 10th Century to the 14th Century, during which time the Vikings settled in Greenland. It was followed by a cooling period that lasted more than a few centuries. Anyone ever seen the pictures in the Maritime Museum in Astoria of the mouth of the Columbia River frozen over and cars driving out on it? In the 1930s, a severe drought contributed to the Dust Bowl.
