The 3,000-square-foot, full-service spa and salon seeks to engage the whole person – body, mind, heart and spirit – through education and a team approach to wellness and beauty, according it its mission statement.

In the upper level salon, stylists offer haircuts, color, perms; nail technicians do manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, gel nails and shellac polish. Waxing, makeup application and lessons, brow tinting and bridal makeup are also offered.

For wedding or other groups, the pedicure room has four stations. In another area, the salon has two lay-down tanning beds, and one stand-up tanning bed.

In the lower level spa, there is a tiled steam room, two massage rooms, a facial room, and a body treatment room with a Vichy shower. Body treatments include salt glows, mud wraps, body polishes and more. Several spa packages are available, from a hot stone massage to a five-hour day at the spa.

Purple Sage Executive Director Regina Macko said the salon employees are licensed to do all services, but focus on certain areas, with Aly Urbach and Chelsea Adams doing mostly hairstyling, and Carolina Acevedo doing nails. At the spa, Sabria Rios is a full-time massage therapist and Joanna Wilson is a part-time massage therapist.

Sabria Rios stands next to the Vichy shower in the spa.Macko is licensed in all areas and has 30 years of experience. At age 17, she began working in the hair industry in Australia. Moving back to the U.S., she joined an international styling team and taught classes for a product line for four years.

In addition, she has done hair, makeup and wardrobe work for musician Tom Grant’s album cover, and “Downtowner Magazine” in Portland.

“I will graduate from Marylhurst University this spring with a degree in general science, and a certificate in training and development and conflict resolution and mediation,” she added.

Born and raised in Oregon, Macko said she has been coming to the Central Oregon area for 40 years, and for a time worked as a naturalist interpreter at Cove State Park.
