"We both work full time and do this on the weekends for fun," said Laura Rehwinkel. She works at Snow's Cleaners, while her husband runs the Details Plus business.

She said this is their first food cart venture, and noted, "It's been Lyle's dream to do this."

He had cooked with family friend Jim Hamm's business Hamm Bones BBQ a few times, and really enjoyed it. The Rehwinkels also barbecue a lot at home for friends, who urged them to open a business.

Rib Rak features meals of tender-roasted ribs, from a recipe Lyle Rehwinkel developed, served with baked beans, potato salad, and lemonade. There are shaded picnic tables at the distillery for dining. New Basin is located just off U.S. Highway 26 at 2036 NW Andrews Drive, north of Madras.

Rib Rak is also available to hire for private events, and will be working hard to help feed the crowds of tourists coming to the Aug. 21 total eclipse. Eventually, they plan on serving barbecue at their Details Plus business.

For now, Rib Rak operates two weekends a month at New Basin; visit their Facebook page for dates and times. For more information, or to schedule them for an event, call 541-460-3099.

"Business has been really good so far; he's loving it," said Laura Rehwinkel.
