Eighteen-year-olds Jack James and Brian Wang, who both attend Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose, California, were in Madras to see the total eclipse, but James' teacher had also assigned him to do an interview of someone during the event.

The two stopped in at the Studio on Fifth artists' shop, and found Madras Mayor Royce Embanks being interviewed by a TV station.
