SUSAN MATHENY/MADRAS PIONEER - Local Jehovah's Witness members Stewart and Susie Overton, left, and Isabel Avila and Carmen Diaz, right, were part of the group staffing literature carts.Local members of the Jehovah's Witness Church set up literature carts, Aug. 17-22, to evangelize to the crowds in Madras during the eclipse.

At the corner of Fifth and D streets, Culver resident Stewart Overton said they were staffing stands from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., each day. His group included his wife, Susie Overton, and members Carmen Diaz and Isabel Avila.

"We're doing this worldwide, where there are lots of people. We don't approach people, we let them approach us," he said.

Overton said three carts, located at the Harriman Building, Sahalee Park, and D Street, offered religious literature in English, Spanish, Japanese, Philippino, French and German languages.
