The Latino Community Association invites everyone to its 11th Annual Festival of Cultures, presented by St. Charles Health System, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Centennial Park, 725 SW Evergreen Ave., in Redmond.
The festival will include local dance troupes, singers and musicians, eclectic food vendors, service and product vendors, a fantastic Kids' Area, the Passport Challenge and a Cultural Trivia Contest with prizes.
Madras city councilor Denise Piza will share her family's immigration story as the keynote speaker at 10 a.m.
Performances, between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., will range from patriotic a capella singers to Warm Springs Indian dancers. Cultural booths will represent around 20 different cultures from most continents.
The festival wraps up Welcoming Week in Central Oregon, Sept.15-24, a series of events that will bring together immigrants, refugees and native-born residents. City councilors in Bend voted unanimously in June to declare Bend a "welcoming city" for newcomers from other countries and will host several activities during the week.
