Christmas party for needy kids
Local churches and the LINC center in Madras are partnering together to hold a Christmas party for children whose families are struggling this holiday season.
"For many of the 22,000 residents of our community, Christmas is a hardship rather than a joyful celebration of Christ's birth. Our goal is to collect donations of new, unwrapped gifts, and to throw a Christmas party for some of these families," said LINC Director Austin Cooper.
The party, which will be held at the library's Rodriguez Annex, on Dec. 16, from 1-3 p.m., will include music, food, gifts, and a visit from Santa. "We will also be sharing the real Christmas story of Jesus with our families," Cooper said.
The party is limited to families who are in need and are on the Oregon Health Plan, in the WIC program, or who are receiving SNAP benefits. To attend, sign up at the LINC office, 278 SE Eighth St., Madras, by Monday, Dec. 11.
Anyone wanting to help with the party may drop off gift donations, or cash donations in the form of a check, by Dec. 8, at the LINC office.
Suggested gift items include board games, kid or teen Bibles, stuffed animals, books, puzzles, Play Dough, art and craft materials, toy cars and trucks, dolls, candy and socks.
