Micah Webb and Jessica Peles both won gold medals at the regional level, and Webb was selected.

SUSAN MATHENY/MADRAS PIONEER - Micah Webb and Jessica Peles won gold medals in the regional Special Olympics Bowling Tournament. Webb will go on to the national contest.Jefferson County Special Olympics held a pizza party and handed out regional bowling awards Nov. 30, at Madras Bowl.

During the awards, local program director Ellen Courtney made a surprise announcement.

The Oregon Special Olympics organization can only afford to send four regional bowling gold medal winners to the National Games, which are being held in Seattle this year. So, the names of gold medal winners, including Jessica Peles and Micah Webb, of Madras, were put in a container and four names were drawn out.

When the names were drawn, it was announced that Micah Webb will be one of the four contestants representing Oregon in Seattle. Considering that he bowled eight strikes in the regional contest, Webb should do well at the National Games.

Local Special Olympics bowlers receiving regional awards in their individual categories included:

David Maness, Lance Stormbringer, Talon Stormbringer, Brian Wilson, David Fuentes, Martin Beck, Shelley Shull, Zac Flu, Julie O'Neal, Misty Holman, Sherry Stairs, Terry Keo, Mervin Cole, Katie Williams, James Christman, Dominick Schregardus, Jo-al Smith, Janet Raines, Nicole Foster, Sky Kinley, Micah Webb, Daniel Robinson, Dora Hernandez, Emily Martin and Jessica Peles.

At the regional contest, they competed against other Special Olympic bowlers in Springfield, Eugene and Bend. Each town held its own bowling contest, and the athletes' scores were sent in to the state for tabulating. The state organization then announced the placings.
