SUBMITED LOGO - New radio station.A new, noncommercial radio station, KJIV-FM "JiveRadio," is now on the air at 96.5 FM, serving Madras and the surrounding communities of Central Oregon. The station is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with coverage ranging from north of Madras to south of Bend.

The station is owned by OpenSkyRadio Corp., a nonprofit organization which owns and operates rural noncommercial radio stations in California, Nevada and Oregon.

OpenSkyRadio also produces "JiveRadio" music content for its stream at its own stations, and provides similar programming and services for other noncommercial stations in the region and beyond.

Besides specialized weekly programming from producers, JiveRadio's programming is decidedly "schizoclectic," which is to say wide-ranging, genre-busting, and surprising, with no megahits from any artist.

Never typical, an hour of "Jive" might contain Brandi Carlile, Ray LaMontagne, Willie Nelson, the Grateful Dead, the Alabama Shakes, Hank Williams, the Allman Brothers, Frank Zappa and Ray Charles.

In radio industry lingo, it is a mix of Americana, Blues, Jazz, R&B, Jam, Bluegrass, Western Swing, Reggae, Ska, and beyond. Veteran programmers Bruce Van Dyke, Diane "Di" Michaels, and Don "Dondo" Darue produce their own weekly shows for JiveRadio and its affiliates.

JiveRadio injects cultural elements into the communities it serves by giving airtime to artists who get scarce coverage otherwise. There is no intent to compete with other stations; rather, it is to add another distinct voice to choose from.

Listeners are cautioned that they might hear a song they don't like and to simply, "Change the channel for a few minutes. You're neighbor may like that song. You'll be back." Aside from the music programming, a key component of OSR's mission is to serve the other nonprofit organizations in the community.
