MountainStar gives annual report
MountainStar Relief Nursery, in Madras, served 65 at-risk children during the 2017-2018 fiscal year, according to a recent report.
The total number of people impacted was 1,292, including children and immediate family members.
Children served by MountainStar centers in the Central Oregon region were: 224 in Bend, 52 in Prineville, 18 in La Pine, and 65 in Madras, for a total of 359.
All children served meet the Oregon state definition of at-risk, and 98 percent of the families served are living in poverty.
MountainStar is the only program in Jefferson, Crook and Deschutes counties providing therapeutic classrooms, parenting education, and family support targeted at protecting babies and toddlers from abuse and neglect.
Center services include: nationally-accredited therapeutic classes, regular child assessments, home visitations, parent education, transportation, services for limited English speaking families, mental health services, a "Safety Net Program" which provides crisis intervention, and enhanced visitation services for families with children in foster care.
