Jefferson County Public Health launched a new community website on Jan. 7, for Jefferson County residents.
"The community website is intended to support nonprofits, service agencies, governments, faith organizations, and small businesses across Jefferson County in promoting events, activities, awareness, and opportunities for community members," said Beth Ann Beamer, public health nurse at Jefferson County Public Health.
Connecting the County
Jefferson County's Community website, called JeffCoConnects, is a Wordpress-based website with functions available to registered users, including a service and business directory, community calendar, events, projects, volunteer recruitment, and a press release function.
Spearheaded by Jefferson County Public Health and the Jefferson County Faith-Based Network, with support from the Ford Family Foundation, JeffCoConnects joins a number of other community websites, includes content in both Spanish and English, and is free of charge for Jefferson County organizations.
"I think that the JeffCoConnects website will be a great addition to the Jefferson County community. I wish it had been up and running when I first moved here. It would have made it easier to get involved and find events going on in the community," said Courtney Barks, AmeriCorps volunteer at Jefferson County Public Health.
Jefferson County-based organizations are invited to an open house for the community website on Jan. 11, from 4-7 p.m., at the Central Oregon Community College Madras Campus' computer lab.
Staff will be on hand to assist the community in registering to use the website as well as orienting users to the variety of website functions available now and in the future. Healthy snacks will be provided.
If an interested party is unavailable to attend the open house, they may register through the website, or call Courtney Barks at public health for assistance. To register through the website, visit www.jeffcoconnects.org.
Jefferson County Public Health, which has the vision of "healthy people in thriving communities," is excited to support the website and the connections it will foster within the diverse communities of Jefferson County.
