The rockhounds will hit the fairgrounds begnning June 20, and Pi-Ume-Sha is set to begin June 28.

June is officially pow wow season in Jefferson County.

This year is a milestone year for both the All Rockhounds Pow Wow Club of America's Rock, Gem and Mineral Show and the Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days celebration.

The 70th Annual All Rockhounds Pow Wow Club of America's Rock, Gem and Mineral at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, Thursday, June 20, through Sunday, June 23, with more than 80 booths, as well as nightly entertainment, activities and daily field trips.

The vendors feature rocks, minerals, carvings, crystals and fossils, among other things.

A membership to the club is required for participation in the field trips. Individual memberships cost $7.50 and family memberships that include anyone 17 years old and under in the family cost $15.

The 50th annual Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days will be celebrated the following weekend in Warm Springs, with an array of events. Pi-Ume-Sha will run from Friday, June 28, through Sunday, June 30, featuring dance competitions, tribal vendors, rodeo and grand entries.

The Pi-Ume-Sha event celebrates the signing of the treaty that established the Warm Springs Reservation in 1855, four years before the state of Oregon was established.

There is no charge to attend Pi-Ume-Sha. One grand entry is usually held at 7 p.m. on Friday, another at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the final at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The parade takes place on Saturday and features entrants riding horseback in full regalia, as well as floats. The Pi-Ume-Sha Rodeo is also held Saturday at the rodeo grounds just north of Warm Springs, on the road to Kah-Nee-Ta.
