OSU Extension's Benny Bash kicks off Saturday with 5K color run and carrot cake bake-off.

Celebrate OSU Extension Service with Benny the Beaver this weekend at Sahalee Park.

The event, which will share the park with Madras Saturday Market, kicks off at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m., featuring everything from food to a 5K color run.

The run begins at 10 a.m. and is $10 per person or $25 per family, up to four people. Beyond four, each child is an extra $5.

Throughout the day the park will be filled with fun activities for kids and families, such as tie dying, face painting as well as the OSU Bug Zoo.

The event serves as the kick-off of the new year of 4-H and features a free baked potato lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Those interested in entering the carrot cake community bake-off can find the online entry form at the Jefferson County Extension center website under the Benny Bash event. No cream filling can be used in the cakes, per health department rules and cakes must be brought to the pavilion in the park by 10 a.m. on Saturday. Judging of the cakes by local volunteers will begin at 11 a.m.

The bash showcases and provides information on OSU Extension programs and opportunities in the community. Information on everything from 4-H to nutrition education and Master Gardener programs will be available at the event.
