Madras Downtown Association and Latino Community Association team up to host celebration for the Mexican Holiday.

Madras will celebrate the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the downtown area.

Día de los Muertos is observed in Mexico and numerous Central and South American countries by people of Mexican and Hispanic heritage as a day of prayer and remembrance of loved ones who have died. Many believe that their loved ones come back to life to celebrate with them.

An altar to honor departed family members will be displayed at the Madras Downtown Association, located at 191 SW Fifth St., which is sponsoring the event along with the Latino Community Association.

Kids can make flower headbands and have their faces painted at that location and families can visit other nearby businesses for treats and hot chocolate.
