As Veterans Day approaches many events are planned to honor veterans around Jefferson County.
The Madras High School Music Department will put on a veterans concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Madras Performing Arts Center.
The concert will feature the MHS Symphonic Band and Chamber Choir and will have reserved seating for all veterans, though all of the community is invited to attend.
A donation of $10 at the door is suggested, or a donation of three canned food items. All monetary donations will be given to the Central Oregon Veterans Ranch and all food donations will be sent to the Jefferson County Veterans Service Office.
Jefferson County VFW
The annual Veterans Day program, held at Erickson Aircraft Collection, begins at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11.
Put on by the Jefferson County Veterans of Foreign Wars, the program will feature Madras High School's JROTC color guard and drill team, as well as the MHS music department, an MIA and POW memorial, two local veterans as speakers and coffee, cookies and cupcakes.
Veterans Day Parade
The annual Veterans Day Parade, in the area of Sahalee Park, begins at 2 p.m. Nov. 11. There will be refreshments and snacks in the park pavilion as well. For more information, contact the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce at 541-475-2350.
Madras Elks Lodge
Madras Elks will honor veterans by providing a Veterans Day dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 11. The dinner is provided free to all veterans and $9 for nonveterans.
All veterans will be honored on a visit to Black Bear Diner from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 11, with a free meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Veteran Healing Memorial
The Jefferson County Community Center is hosting the debut of the newly constructed Veteran Healing Memorial at 2 p.m. Nov. 13.
