Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for mentor volunteers in 2020. Informational meetings set for January.

It's the same thing every January – gyms are overflowing, kale is selling like hotcakes, and everyone is trying to be their best for the New Year. But what if this year people consider resolving to do something even more important than stomaching a green smoothie once a week.

That's why Big Brothers Big Sisters is asking the citizens of Jefferson County to make the Big Resolution this January.

The first month of the year is National Mentoring Month, and Big Brothers Big Sisters is encouraging friends, family members and co-workers to become defenders of potential and be a part of the celebration.

"We are in great need of Big Brothers as the majority of the deserving children on our wait list are boys," a news release said. Bridget Albert, community outreach coordinator for the program, Bridget Albert, will hold two volunteer information meetings in Jefferson County in January, where those interested in helping can come learn what it takes to become a defender of potential.

Information, such as dates and times of the informational meetings, will be posted to the organization's social media pages including Facebook at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon and on Instagram at @bbbsco.

"National Mentoring Month is also a time for us to thank our (current) mentors for all they do for their Littles and for our program," the release said. "We are incredibly grateful for the mentors in Jefferson County who have made a 'big' difference in the lives of local youth. Every moment you spend with your Littles, you are defending, igniting and empowering their potential, and changing their lives for the better, forever."
