It's not too late to have local Scouts pick up and dispose of your Christmas tree.

It's not too late to have local Scouts pick up and dispose of your Christmas tree.

This Saturday, Jan. 4, Pack 58 will be gathering up trees.

Those interested in tree removal should contact Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 at 541-475-7274 and leave your name, phone number and address to get on the list.

Trees should be cleaned of all lights and decorations and removed from the stand. Once your name is on the list, make sure the tree is placed at the end of your driveway no later than 10 a.m. Saturday.

A tax-deductible donation of $5 is appreciated by the Pack for providing the service. Donations can be placed in a plastic bag and securely attached to the tree. Checks can be made out to Pack 58.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 reminds community members to remove their old trees as soon after Christmas as possible in order to reduce the risk of fire in their homes. The longer a tree remains in a home, the greater the fire risk becomes.
