1st baby of 2020 joins family
Along with the new year comes one of the cutest stories of the year – the New Year's baby.
This year is no exception. Khalil James Tewee was born at 1:28 a.m. Jan. 2 to Mary and Phillip Tewee Sr., of Culver, making the new year a memorable one for the family, who wasn't expecting the addition to their family to arrive until a couple of weeks later.
Khalil, weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce and measuring 19 1/4 inches long, joins siblings Kayla Tewee, 16, Macral Tewee, 13, Chad Tias, 13, Maurice Tewee, 11, Philana Tewee, 9, and Phillip Tewee Jr., 5.
"We didn't expect it," said the father. "This new baby was a pretty good blessing."
As far as the family goes, "We love playing basketball," said Philana.
"They play in a league," said their mom. The sport is a family affair for sure, and they all enjoy spending time at tournaments.
The Tewees said it just seems natural to have a big family like they do.
"We have always had a lot of kids around us," they said, talking over each other, from extended family and friends.
"We love it," they said together.
"Their dad is a fisherman, that's what he does," said Mary Tewee who stays at home with the kids.
Aside from basketball, the family enjoys watching movies together, like the one the baby is named from.
"She named him," Mary Tewee said, gesturing towards the baby's sister Kayla. Khalil comes from the movie "The Hate U Give."
