Local company sets aside money for the community out of each loan processed.

DESRIEE BERGSTROM/MADRAS PIONEER - Mann Mortgage presented two checks, one to Madras high School Key Club and another to Operation Rudolph as a part of its Your Vote Matters program.
Operation Rudolph and MHS Key Club were the two local recipients from the Mann Mortgage "Your Vote Matters" fourth-quarter campaign to support nonprofits.

Operation Rudolph received $400 to support its work providing gifts for underprivileged youths, while Key Club received $250 to continue its community leadership and community service programs.

The "Your Vote Matters" program was created six years ago by Chester Freeman of the Central Oregon Mann Mortgage Team to support local Central Oregon nonprofits. Freeman, the branch manager for Madras, started "Your Vote Matters" to support nonprofits doing work the community believes in and is passionate about. He said if the community is choosing the program that gets the award, then he knows the money will stay local and support the local people, and the momentum will grow.

Mann Mortgage takes a portion of every loan it closes in the communities it serves and then asks the individual communities to decide which local nonprofit should be receiving the funds. Over the past two years, Central Oregon Mann Mortgage has donated over $35,000 to local nonprofits.

To help keep a variety of groups receiving support, no nonprofit can win back to back, and all voting is done by community members.

Past recipients include Three Rivers Humane Society and Mountain Star Relief Nursery.

According to Tracey Leslie, loan officer partner for the Madras branch, "Every nonprofit needs help and support in their mission, and Your Vote Matters lets local people show their support for local programs, get additional funding to serve the community, and gets the word out there about the work being done by these amazing nonprofits.

"The Your Vote Matters award lets people show they care about a specific group or mission," she said, "and then lets them put a vote in to get an agency you care about receive additional support to move forward in their work in supporting the community. Anyone can recommend a local nonprofit, and all are welcome to vote."
