Mayor offers gifts at birthday celebration for Japanese emperor
Mayor Richard Ladeby and his wife, Cheryl, attended a reception in celebration Japanese Emperor Naruhito's birthday in Portland on Friday, Feb. 7. The celebration was hosted by Takashi Teraoka, consul-general of Japan.
Ladeby presented three gifts for the emperor that represent Central Oregon. He donated an obsidian knife with an elk antler handle and a piece of jade rock. City Councilor Royce Embanks donated a wooden duck made by a local craftsperson.
