New associate attorney Lauren Kauffman will focus on family law and civil litigation

 - Lauren Kauffman recently joined the Law Office of Jered Reid as an associate attorney.

Attorney Lauren Kauffman grew up in a small town and had vacationed in Central Oregon, so when she discovered that the Law Office of Jered Reid was looking for an associate, she called.

Things fell into place, and in August, Kauffman and her husband moved from Fargo, North Dakota, to Madras, where she is an associate attorney with Jered Reid.

Reid said he is very excited to have Kauffman join his office.

"She grew up in a small town in Minnesota and from that background has the appreciation for integrity and work ethic that I believe can benefit our community greatly," Reid said. "She is also very personable, which will allow her to better service our clients for their legal needs."

Kauffman is taking on any cases regarding family law and any type of civil litigation. Family law includes divorce, custody and modification of spousal or child support. Civil litigation includes a broad range, such as abandonment of property, evictions and contempt issues.

The Madras office is her home base, but she spends Monday afternoons and Thursdays at Reid's Prineville office. She joins Reid, Prineville associate attorney Giselle Garcia, as well as Madras office manager Tori Reid and Prineville office manager Julie Rockwood.

Kauffman grew up in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, from 2010 to 2013. She studied abroad in South Africa during her final semester and ended up relocating there, where she met and eventually married Nathan Booysen, a South African.

They moved back to the U.S. in early 2015, and she worked for Appareo Systems, an engineering company in Fargo, North Dakota. She helped manage their intellectual property department.

Kauffman then went to law school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating this past May.

Last year, Kauffman and her husband vacationed in Bend, and they really liked the area, but they were not sure if they were going to be able to move to Central Oregon. She then found an opening with the Madras attorney's office. Booysen secured a position with an engineering company in Bend.

Kauffman says she likes the small-town aspect of Madras.

"I'm used to living in this type of area, so it's nice to be back out of the big city," she said.

She looks forward to helping the locals with their litigation needs.

"I'm hoping I can help as many people as I can," she said.
