Dr. Patricia Spencer's mission is for people to be healthy, be happy and live long.
She's bringing that approach to her new Madras aesthetics clinic.
"With my aesthetics practice, my goal is to help my patients to achieve a result which better reflects their sense of themselves without changing who they are," she said.
Spencer has opened her clinic in Opal Day Spa on Fifth Street in downtown Madras, offering Botox and dermal filler services.
Opal Day Spa owner Sarah Gannon is planning a holiday event Dec. 1-20 to welcome Spencer and highlight the other service providers. They plan an open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
As an opening special, Spencer is offering a discount on her services through Dec. 31.
Spencer also practices family medicine and obstetrics.
"My motivation as a doctor is to help people to be healthy, making it easier for them to be happy and have a long enjoyable quality of life," she said.
She began practicing aesthetics in 2012, mostly for friends and family and a few of her family medicine and obstetrics patients.
Botox is a substance that relaxes the muscles, Spencer explained. When she injects certain muscles, the skin on the surface is given a chance to smooth, minimizing and fading the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions.
Dermal fillers contain ingredients that add fullness to areas that have thinned due to aging, restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours.
She plans to eventually offer sclerotherapy to treat spider veins.
Spencer has lived in Madras since 2014 and said she was looking for a place to establish her aesthetic business. She found that Gannon was looking for service providers to expand the offerings at Opal Day Spa. Things fell into place, and Spencer renovated a room, painting it light blue and adding white cabinets and bright lights.
Spencer joins Gannon at the spa as well as three others. Gannon has been in the skin care and makeup profession for 30 years. She's also been doing facials and waxing for 20 years.
"I opened the business in Madras close to 20 years ago. It has changed. I had started small, and it grew into Opal Day Spa," Gannon said.
She enjoys helping people with their home care and skin care.
"Especially now, people want to do as much as they can taking care of their skin at home, so I teach people a lot about home care facials and that kind of thing so that they can have those spa experiences at the convenience of their home," she said.
Licensed massage therapist David Gasporra has been at Opal Day Spa for a couple of years. He has 20 years of massage therapy experience. His wife, Susan Gasporra, is an esthetician at the spa.
"She's really highly educated in esthetics," Gannon said, noting that she has been doing facials for 30 years.
Hairdresser Joy Savage recently joined the spa. She has specialized in hair coloring for 15 years.
Gannon said she is looking for a nail technician and another massage therapist to complete the services at Opal Day Spa.
She invites the community to visit the spa during their holiday event, which will happen the first 20 days of December. In addition to welcoming Spencer to Opal Day Spa, the providers will offer free drawings, gifts, free makeovers, gifts with purchase, gift certificates, specials and sales on retail products.
"We will have one-on-one skin consultations prescribing skincare products and home routines to deliver dazzling skin results," she said.
