Often, Alzheimer's Disease is the most common term people refer to when talking about dementia. While Alzheimer's is a form of dementia there are many different types of dementia. Having a loved on diagnosed with dementia can be frightening. Understanding and recognizing the early symptoms in your loved one will benefit you in knowing when and where to seek treatment. Below are eight of the most common symptoms of dementia.

Mood or personality changes, especially if their routine is disrupted, become more pronounced.

Because it is difficult to follow conversations, your senior may withdraw from social interactions.

Being consistently confused about time and place. Not knowing where they are or how they got there is another red flag.

New and persistent problems with speaking and writing like forgetting someone's name and other vocabulary.

It becomes increasingly difficult for your loved one to complete familiar tasks like doing the laundry or dishes.

Repeatedly asking questions because their short-term memory is lost, and they can't remember something they learned recently.

Difficulty with numbers or a recipe could mean that dementia is affecting their problem solving and concentration.

Losing things because your senior is unable to retrace their steps.

If your loved one is showing some of these signs, you should discuss it with them and consult your doctor. If the problem has gotten to the point that they need assistance, call us! At Chinook Place Memory Care, we have the experience and expertise to properly care of your loved one with dementia.
