The Madras High School boys swim team notched another win Saturday, taking its own White Buffalo Classic at the Madras Aquatic Center.

The boys finished with 92 points to take the title, 13 points clear of runner-up Bend. Mountain View finished third with 50 points and Summit scored 32 to come in fourth.

On the girls side, Madras paddled to a third-place finish with 46 points, just four more than fourth-place Summit. Bend won the girls portion of the meet in dominant fashion with 97 points, followed by Ridgeview with 50 points. The Lava Bears also won the combined team title with 176 points, 38 points ahead of the White Buffalos.

The boys keep riding the strength of the relay events to victory. The 200-yard medley relay team of Bryce Williams, Brandon Hunt, Ian Goodwin and Garrett Webb edged out Mountain View to win gold and score 14 team points.

Madras' time of 1 minute, 48.37 seconds barely outpaced that of the Cougars, who swam a 1:49.09.

Williams put together a nice day in the 200 freestyle as well. After finishing the preliminaries in second place, he sped to a first-place finish in the event with a time of 1:54.86, three seconds faster than his time in the prelims.

He also took first place in the 100 freestyle, beating teammate Brady Tucker by two seconds. Williams turned in a time of 51.93 seconds, just .36 seconds shy of his own meet record.

Williams swam a leg on Madras' second-place 200 freestyle relay team, along with Tucker, Webb and Josh Hocker. The four Buffs nearly caught Bend near the end, but the Lava Bears held on for the win. The Buffs finished the race in 1:39.07, and Bend won it with a time of 1:38.30.

Along with his leg on the 200 medley gold medal team, Goodwin picked up a silver medal in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.60, and followed up with a third-place time in the 500 freestyle (4:59.77).

Hunt earned gold in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:06.48, two seconds ahead of runner-up Brett Kelly from Ridgeview.

Webb picked up a fourth-place spot in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:13.21.

Hocker picked up a bronze in the 50 freestyle in a hotly contested race. Ridgeview's Owen Hucke won the race with a time of 24.84 seconds, and the next five finishers all came in with times in the 25-second range.

Hocker finished just .04 seconds behind runner-up Trevor Barry of Sisters, and just .09 seconds ahead of Bend's Garrett Ross.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Goodwin, Tucker, Hocker and Hunt finished third with a time of 3:35.07.

For the girls, Sophie Gemelas nearly got her 100 butterfly time under a minute, finishing the race in first place with a time of 1:00.14. She also picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke, crushing the field with a time of 1:10.15. She finished almost six seconds faster than runner-up Jennifer Robeson of Bend (1:16.08).

Gemelas teamed with Aurora Gerhardt, Melissa Field and Elyse Bagley to take third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:10.14.

Gerhardt earned the Buffs seven team points with a win in the 100 backstroke. She finished more than three seconds ahead of second-place Abby Sorlie of Summit, with a time of 1:05.31. Sorlie finished in 1:08.56.

Gerhardt added a silver medal in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.37 seconds.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Gerhardt, Gemelas, Cirelle Frank and Maya Hoaglin finished fourth with a time of 1:55.64. The 400 freestyle relay team also placed fourth with a time of 4:42.90. Hoaglin, Frank, Field and Bagley swam on the team.

The Buffs will be back in the pool for competition Thursday in Redmond.
