Senior Kiersten Anderson named to all-league second team; freshman Hannah Holliday earns honorable mention.

WILL DENNER/MADRAS PIONEER - Hannah Holliday (left) sets up Kiersten Anderson (right) for a hit in a home game against Redmond Aug. 31.With a relatively young roster, the Madras volleyball team experienced an up-and-down season, but a couple players earned some well-deserved recognition.

Senior Kiersten Anderson was named to the Tri-Valley Conference all-league second team, while freshman Hannah Holliday earned an honorable mention.

Anderson was a stabilizer on the block as well as a hitter. Perhaps most imposing was Anderson's serving. On numerous occasions during the season, she recorded consecutive aces and kept opposing defenses on their toes, utilizing a combination of strong and well-placed hits.

Holliday filled in at the start of the season for typical starting setter Niyallee Cochran, who was sidelined with an illness. Holliday performed well in a starting role, and continued to make the most of her opportunities off the bench when Cochran returned.

Corbett senior Faith McQueen was named Player of the Year.

Crook County head coach Rosie Honl earned Coach of the Year honors, after leading the Cowgirls to a fourth straight league title.

Honl announced her retirement last week, putting an end to an incredible 22-year tenure at Crook County that included eight state titles.
